It was a hot summer day. Alice was in a tree making a crown with daisies, while her sister read to her. She was feeling a little sleepy. the sunshine was so warm that it made her feel drowsy, and her sisters voice seemed to fade further and further away. Soon her eyes were closed. Suddenly, in the darkness, she saw the reflection of a Rabbit, as if in a mirror......He was carrying an umbrella, and was wearing a waistcoat, a red jacket and spectacles. But Alice was even more amazed by the enormous watch he took from his waistcoat pocket. "Oh dear!" he muttered. "I'm late, I'm late! It is half past two!"He scurried off, obviously late for a very important appointmant. Alice, who was curious, raced after him, but suddenly the Rabbit vanished into the rabbit hole under a hedge. Alice leaned over to see where he had gone and.... fell into the hole. Down and down she fell, and after a very long time, she reached the bottom. She was so astonished that she did not even think about the little kitten that she left a the entrance of the hole. All she could see was a long tunnel, and the White Rabbit hurrying along ahead of her. She tried to catch up with him, and found herself in a big hall. The Rabbit ut behind a low curtain, but when Alice followed him, he was gone. Instead, she found a little blue door with a very crotchety Doorknob. "Open wide!" ordered Alice. Peering through the lock, she saw the White Rabbit running through the loveliest garden she had ever seen. "How can I reach that garden?" she wondered. "Even this golden key isnt much use, because the door is too small for me to fit through." Just then she noticed a bottle, half hidden behind a curtain, and on it a label that read "Drink me". Without even stopping to think, she drank the whole bottle. It was a magic potion. Alice shrank smaller and smaller, until she was no taller than the label. Now she would be able to get into the garden. Or will she? The golden key was on the table, far out of her reach. What could she do? Feeling very sorry for herself, Alice ate a cake she found in a box under the table, then another... Suddenly she realised she was ten times the size she wasbefore. Trapped in the room, Alice burst into giant sized tears. In no time the room was flooded. Looking around, Alice saw that there were a few drops of shrinking liquid left. She drank them, and quickly jumped into the bottle to save herself from the flood. The waves tossed the bottle around in circles, until Alice noticed that she was headed straight for the Doorknob. "Oh, I'm so wet!" a voice near her grumbeled."I'll catch my death od cold!" The mor the Doorknob grumbled, the more water he swallowed until at last, he swallowed the bottle with Alice inside. On the other side of the door, Alice found herself on dry land. She looked around and was ahtonished to see two little round men coming towards her. "Tweedledum and Tweedledee, at your service!" they cried. But she could not get any sense from the twins, so Alice slipped away to look for the White Rabbit. She had landed in the forest. Nearby, in a clearing, she could see a pretty thatched cottage surrounded by a magnificent garden. There were flowers everywhere, even in the window box. "Is anyone at home?" asked Alice, opening the door. She was just about to close it again, when someone sounded a trumpet behind her. She jumped with fright. The White Rabbit had appeared from nowhere, dressed as the Jack of Hearts. "Hurry up, it's time!" he shouted. "Go inside quickely and fetch my gloves!" Alice ran into the house. Inside the house, a tray of biscuits caught her eye. Hungry after her adventures, she ate them all. Too late, she realised that she was growing again, and soon found herself stuck.....with her feet in the garden an her head in the attic! The Rabbit's neighbours tried to get her out, but she was stuck fast. Alice had an idea. She picked up the White Rabbit by its shirt-tail....and demanded that he go and pick u carrot from the garden. "Why do you want a carrot?" asked the Rabbit crossly. "So that i can eat it, silly!" replied Alice. The White Rabbit did as he was told, grumbling all the while. Alice was right. Everythingin this land has magical powers. After munching the carrot, she became so small that the Rabbits house looked like a huge castle. And Dodo the Rabbits neighbour, was astionished when he saw a tiny Alice climbing backwards down the stairs! When Alice reached the bottom of the stairs, she was very relieved, but also quite disappointed to find that the White Rabbit had disappeared.
